Time Waits For No Man

Rasco’s Time Waits for No Man stands as a cornerstone of West Coast underground hip-hop, blending unflinching lyricism with top-tier production and a reverence for the culture. Originally released in 1998, the album marked the first full-length hip-hop project from the iconic Stones Throw Records, cementing their legacy as a launching pad for independent artists.

The album showcases Rasco’s no-nonsense approach, focusing heavily on his prowess as an emcee and his commitment to preserving hip-hop’s authenticity. With a commanding voice and sharp, no-frills lyricism, Rasco delivers on every track, ensuring his presence is felt throughout.

Guest appearances from underground heavyweights like Dilated Peoples, Defari, Encore, and Planet Asia, along with contributions from turntablists Vin Roc, DJ Revolution, DJ Babu, and D-Styles. Meanwhile, an all-star production roster featuring Peanut Butter Wolf, Paul Nice, Kut Masta Kurt, and Fanatik provides a sonic foundation that perfectly complements Rasco’s rugged delivery.

Highlights include the Fanatik-produced single “The Unassisted,” a stripped-down anthem that epitomizes late ‘90s indie hip-hop. Other standout tracks include “What It’s All About,” Peanut Butter Wolf’s “Hip Hop Essentials,” and the collaborative gems “Major League” and “Take It Back Home.”

This long-awaited reissue by Coalmine Records breathes new life into Time Waits for No Man, making it available for the first time since 2004. A must-listen for fans of classic hip hop, this album remains a timeless testament to Rasco’s artistry and the enduring appeal of underground hip-hop.

This Collector’s Edition 2XLP features the original artwork, enhanced with subtle rebranding elements by Mr. Krum to commemorate the reissue, and is sonically elevated through a fresh remaster by D-Sane of Digital Age Sound, giving this underground classic the long-overdue vinyl treatment it deserves.
