Wandering Birds

Originally released in 1970, Head Rock stands as a heretical and revolutionary masterpiece in the canon of Japanese jazz. With this bold pivot, Jiro Inagaki—a pioneering force in Japan’s jazz rock movement—challenged the conventions of traditional jazz and introduced a raw, electric energy that forever changed the course of the genre.

From the hypnotic drive of the opener “The Vamp” to the explosive finale “Head Rock,” this record is a nonstop assault of jazz-rock fusion, driven by Inagaki’s relentless vision and the tight, impassioned performances of his Soul Media ensemble. Every second of the album pulses with urgency, innovation, and attitude—making it a landmark release not only in Japan, but in the global development of jazz-funk and rock fusion.

This long-awaited reissue brings the sonic force of Head Rock back to life with exceptional clarity and stunning presentation:
