Winter in America

Released in 1974, Winter in America is a landmark album from the legendary Gil Scott-Heron and keyboardist Brian Jackson. Known for its poignant political commentary, soulful jazz-funk fusion, and poetic lyricism, the album captures the disillusionment and struggles of Black America in the post-civil rights era.

Unlike much of Scott-Heron’s earlier, more militant work, Winter in America is introspective and mournful—imbued with a sense of cultural loss and quiet urgency. Recorded during a period of political unrest and social upheaval, the album offers a blend of spoken word, soul, and jazz, anchored by Jackson’s warm Fender Rhodes and Heron’s distinctive voice.

From the haunting title track to the iconic “The Bottle,” Winter in America is as musically rich as it is emotionally resonant. It's a cornerstone of conscious soul, beloved by crate diggers, activists, and audiophiles alike.

This is the 2025 black vinyl edition done by Culture Factory.
